Fort Collins is a city of 134,000 located 60 miles north of Denver. “The Fort” seems to have something for just about everyone – several shopping malls, hundreds of restaurants, multiple movie complexes, a regional cultural center, natural areas, miles of bike trails, and cozy coffee houses.

Since 1967, volunteers have been providing the Fort Collins area with programs and activities designed to build friendships and develop understanding among people from around the world.

The Fort Collins Not In Our Town Alliance (NIOTA) is a community-based effort to create and support collaboration among individuals, agencies, organizations and local governments to address the causes and effects of prejudice, discrimination and hate motivated behavior.

Human Relations Commission

The Human Relations Commission was established by City Council to promote the acceptance and respect for diversity through educational programs and activities, and to discourage all forms of discrimination based on race, religion, age, gender, disability, etc. The Commission often coordinates these efforts with such groups as the Multicultural Commission and the Commission on the Status of Women. The Commission also oversees the activities of the Citizen Liaison program, and presents the annual Human Relations Award to recognize those citizens who have advanced the cause of human rights through their volunteer efforts.

Northside Aztlan Community Center Advisory Council’s mission is to ensure the success of Northside Aztlan Community Center by advocating for accessibility, effective programming and multicultural inclusion. The Council’s role includes, in part, advocating, supporting and promoting Northside Aztlan Center and providing advice on issues that will impact positive growth and programming for Northside Aztlan Center.
