The Reinvention Collaborative’s Raising the Bar Initiative provides disciplinary perspectives on how best to achieve highest quality online courses and complements teaching and learning center and global campus expertise.
The COVID-19 pandemic has challenged higher education in the delivery of coursework in many ways, beyond shifts to online platforms. This public health and economic crisis has not affected all students and instructors equally. Dr. OiYan Poon, Assistant Professor and Director of the Race and Intersectional Studies in Educational Equity (RISE) Center at Colorado State University, moderates a panel on equity in online teaching featuring Dr. D-L Stewart, Colorado State University; Robert Brown, Northwestern University; and Ria Vigil, Colorado State University.
The panelists on this webinar engage Dr. Stewart’s framework for equity, diversity, inclusion, and justice to guide instructors’ pedagogical approaches and development of courses. They also share their experiences in teaching and working with undergraduate and graduate students, and engage participants in dialogue to center values of intersectional racial justice and equity in teaching across the disciplines. Dr. D-L Stewart (proper gender pronouns of reference: he/him/his and they/them/their) is professor in the School of Education and co-chair of the Student Affairs in Higher Education programs at Colorado State University. D-L is a scholar, educator, and activist focused on empowering and imagining futures that sustain and cultivate the learning, growth, and success of minoritized groups in postsecondary education.
Robert Brown (he, him, his) serves as the Director of Social Justice Education at Northwestern University in Evanston, IL, where he leads several curricular and co-curricular social justice education initiatives. Robert is currently pursuing a PhD in Higher Education Leadership at Colorado State University.
Ria Vigil serves as an Assistant Vice President for Diversity in the Office of the Vice President for Diversity at Colorado State University. She is currently pursuing a PhD in the Higher Education Leadership Program at CSU through the School of Education at CSU.
